How to Root Galaxy Note 2 N7100 on Android 4 3 JB Firmware

International version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 with the model number GT-N7100 has officially receive Android 4.3 Jelly Bean firmware update with build number N7100XXUEMK4. The new firmware is now officially available as an Over-The-Air (OTA) update via Samsung Kies as well.


Samsung N7100 Galaxy Note 2 users who have updated their devices with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, can root their devices by using the tutorial below.

This tutorial uses the CF-Auto-Root file released by XDA-Developers Recognized Elite, Chainfire. File CF-Auto-Root Galaxy Note 2 which allows the user to root their devices easily without depending on the firmware. It was really supports Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and firmware in the future as well. Pre-requisites

1. Install USB Driver for Samsung Galaxy Note 2 on the computer.
2. Enable USB Debugging Mode on the phone by navigating to Settings >> Developer Options.
3. Make a backup of all your important data before following the guide.
4. The Galaxy Note 2 should be factory unlocked and not locked to any particular carrier.
5. Ensure the battery of the phone is charged more than 80 percent.
6. The CF-Auto-Root file works only on the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 with model number GT-N7100. Applying this to any incorrect variant might brick the device. Verify the model number of the Galaxy Note 2 by navigating to Settings >> About Phone.

File Required
1. CF-Auto-Root for Galaxy Note 2 N7100 (CF-Auto-Root-t03g-t03gxx-gtn7100.zip)
2. Odin 3.07

Steps to Root Galaxy Note 2 N7100 Running on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Firmware

Step 1: Extract CF-Auto-Root and Odin 3.07 files using winrar/7zip/winzip or any other extracting tool.
Step 2: Switch off the Galaxy Note 2. Then boot the device into Download Mode by pressing and holding Volume Down, Home and Power buttons together until a construction Android robot icon with a warning triangle appears on Lcd. Now press the Volume Up button to enter Download Mode.
Step 3: Launch Odin on the computer as an Administrator.
Step 4: Connect the Galaxy Note 2 to the computer using USB cable while it is in the Download Mode. Wait until Odin detects the device. When the device is connected successfully, the ID: COM box will turn to light blue with the COM port number. Additionally, the successful connected will be indicated by a message saying Added.

Note: If the Added message does not appear, then try re-install USB drivers or changing the port on the computer.

Step 5: In Odin, click the PDA button and select the CF-Auto-Root-t03g-t03gxx-gtn7100.tar.md5 file.
Step 6: Verify that Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time checkboxes are selected in Odin. Also, ensure the Re-Partition option is NOT selected.
Step 7: Double-check and click Start button in Odin. The installation process will now begin.
Step 8: Once the installation process is completed, your phone will restart and soon you will see a PASS message with green background in the left-most box at the very top of the Odin. You can now unplug the USB cable to disconnect your device from the computer.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 N7100 running on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean firmware is now rooted successfully. You can now install any app that requires root permission. Verify the root status of the device by downloading Root Checker app from Google Play Store.

How to Install Android 4.3 Jelly Bean based Carbon ROM on Sprint Galaxy Note 2 SPH-L900 

  1. Connect your device to PC using USB cable and then copy downloaded files to the SD card of your device.Important: Don’t extract any files. 
  2. Disconnect USB and then turn off your Sprint Galaxy Note 2 SPH-L900. 
  3. Now, boot into recovery mode. To do so, press and hold Volume Up, Home and Power button together until Samsung logo flash twice and then leave the button. You should see recovery menu soon. In recovery use Volume Keys to navigate between option and Power button to select an option.
  4. Perform a Nandroid backup of your existing ROM that you can restore later if this new ROM not work or you want to go back into your previous ROM. To perform a backup, select Backup and Restore, then on the next screen, select Backup again. Go back to main recovery menu after backup is complete. 
  5. Now, perform data wiping task. To do so, select wipe data/factory reset, then select Yes on next screen to confirm your action. Wait few minutes till the data wipe is complete. Now come back to CWM recovery main menu. Select wipe cache partition and after wiping process done, select Wipe Dalvik Cache under advanceoption to perform Dalvik cache wiping. 
  6. Select install zip from sdcard, then select choose zip from sdcard. Now, locate the Carbon ROM Zip file that you copied earlier in Step 1 and select it by pressing Power button. Confirm installation by selecting Yes – Install _____.zip on the next screen. The ROM installation will begin. 
  7. Once the ROM installation process end, repeat the step 6 but choose the gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip file instead of ROM zip to install the Google apps package. 
  8. When installation is completed, go back to the main recovery menu and select reboot system now to reboot your Sprint Galaxy Note 2 SPH-L900 and boot up into customized Android 4.3 Jelly Bean ROM Carbon. The first boot will take time, so be patient! 
  9. Returning to Previous ROM: To go back to your previous ROM, boot into recovery, select backup and restore then restore your previous ROM by selecting it from the list. 

Congrats! Android 4.3 Jelly Bean firmware based custom ROM Carbon is now installed and running on your Sprint Galaxy Note 2 SPH-L900.
